Radio station nixes Bush 'Big Oil' ad

PHILADELPHIA, July 3 (UPI) -- A Philadelphia radio station manager says he won't run an ad featuring the impersonated voice of President Bush endorsing a "Big Oil" agenda.

KYW-AM declined to air the ad, which was sponsored by the Democrats and features the imitation Bush thanking Republican congressional candidates for backing the Big Oil agenda.

It apparently sounded real enough that the station decided might think it was the genuine president speaking.

"As an all-news station, we were concerned that our listeners would have been misled by usage of an impersonator in the creative delivery," General Manager David Yadgaroff said in an e-mail sent to The Hill.

The newspaper said Thursday the radio spot is part of a Democratic ad campaign running in 13 congressional districts nationwide held by Republican incumbents.

The Hill said the faux Bush also quips that GOP stands for "Grand Oil Party."
